Meta-anedota

He had a tendency to rock to and fro all the time and was a notoriously messy eater, a dispenser of crumbs to his neighbors at the table. There are many anedoctes about Kripke's eccentricities, but the one I like the best goes as follows. At a conference a group of philosophers were playing guitars and singing folk songs after the formal sessions were over. They asked Kripke to join in and he replied, "If anyone else did, that would be the end of it, but if I do, it will be just another Kripke anedocte." (This is what we philosophers call technically a "meta anecdote.")
in Colin McGinn, "The Making of a Philosopher"
